FEATURED POST

Mission

Our mission is to drive the economic empowerment of women through the development of childcare cooperatives and the allocation of micro0grants.

Workin' Moms was born out of a commitment to intersectional feminism, driving the economic empowerment of women and solving problems facing families in our local community in real-time. We take pride in solving problems with boldness, creativity and heart.

Our Work.

Driving the voluntary participation of mothers in the workforce is the the most important goal of our organization. We seek to support, empower, and provide high quality resources to families we serve in north central Phoenix. Our success isn’t measured in terms of wealth or profit margin, but by the value we provide to those we serve. In fact, we are tremendously proud of the impact we've had in a short term with very limited financial resources. We believe in the collectivist spirit of mothers to lift one another up and create new economic opportunities for families.

Impact

Tuition-Free Childcare

Since our inception in August 2022, Workin' Moms has provided over 5000+ hours of free childcare by highly qualified early child educators through our flagship childcare cooperative in Phoenix, AZ. We provide newborn, after-hours, and emergency care to support mothers and provide inclusive care for children with special needs through our small format childcare cooperative.

Micro-Grants

Workin' Moms functions 100% on the hard work of volunteers. In our first informal fundraising push, we were able to raise over $1500 that have been allocated to mothers based on need in the range of $200-$500. This has helped mothers from female-headed households extend their maternity leave, provide Christmas during a time of financial hardship and prevent eviction.

Behavioral Coaching

Workin' Moms provides behavioral supports for mothers and children with special needs. We work with children with ADHD and autism in a safe and sensory-friendly environment to learn through play and exploration. An emphasis is placed on social-emotional development, self-regulation, and communication. Families are often referred to Workin' Moms after facing expulsion from site-based preschools for ongoing behavior issues.

GED Tutoring

Workin' Moms supports adults learners as well.

TRAIN OF THOUGHT

HERstory

IMG_4697.jpg

Workin' Moms was founded in August 2022 by educator and mother, Lauren Bradley. After the birth of her second daughter, she left her job as a teacher because she could not secure affordable childcare for her younger daughter. Not wanting other mothers to face the same difficult decision, she began to watch a number of children in her local community so their mothers could feel empowered to work knowing their children were safe, loved, and happy.

MY PICK
OF THE MONTH

Mikki Kendall's Hood Feminism is an in-depth look at the Feminist movement and how it does (and mostly doesn't) support women of color and other marginalized groups of women. Mikki's book takes a critical look at how the movement was built around increasing the privilege of the few and asks readers to evaluate how we really talk about

Feminism and the issues it should cover. Mikki takes you deeper into what inspired the book and what issues Feminists should be focusing on through detailed research and by sharing her own Feminist upbringing. Hood Feminism will challenge how you think about the movement that began with white women's suffrage and is still evolving to this day.
